Doctor Strange Director & Writer Reunite For New Project
The director and one of the co-writers behind Doctor Strange have revealed that the two are reuniting for another project. The news reignites speculation that director Scott Derrickson is returning to direct Doctor Strange 2. However, the project could have nothing to do with Marvel, since the two have worked together multiple times in the past.

Directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Strange was the 14th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie combined superhero and psychedelic elements with fantasy and magic to help give the film its own unique flavor. Released in November of 2016, Doctor Strange was met with favorable reviews and was considered a proper box office success, grossing over $677 million worldwide. The movie became the highest-grossing single-character introduction film in the MCU.

C. Robert Cargill, a frequent partner of Scott Derrickson and co-writer of Doctor Strange, posted a message on Twitter that revealed that the two are working together again on a new project (see below). As for what that project could entail, no details were mentioned. It could be that the project in question is When Gravity Fails, a film listed on both Derrickson and Cargill’s IMDb pages. The movie is based off the science fiction cyberpunk novel of the same name. Cargill and Derrickson have had plans to develop When Gravity Fails as early as 2013, but these have yet to move forward.

I'm never happier than when I'm deep into a project and everything is firing on all cylinders. That's exactly what's going on with me and @scottderrickson right now. It's been amazing saddling back up with him and writing together again.

Cargill and Derrickson’s interest in the cyberpunk genre has also led them to work on a script for a live-action adaption of the video game franchise, Deus Ex, though there hasn’t been any updates on the film’s status in years. Other collaborations between the writer and director include the horror film Sinister and its sequel, Sinister 2. It was in the horror genre where Derrickson first rose to fame as a director.

While it’s difficult to determine what Cargill and Derrickson are working on now, Marvel fans are already speculating that the tweet is an indication that the Doctor Strange sequel is quietly in the works. Derrickson previously expressed his interest in Doctor Strange 2, as well as a desire to use Nightmare as the next villain. No official announcement has been made by Marvel, but the first film’s success certainly justifies a sequel. Doctor Strange 2 seems like a given for Phase 4, whether its Derrickson and Cargill’s new project or not.
