Star Wars Fan Film Teaser Reimagines the Kenobi vs Vader Scene

Star Wars fans who want a slightly more visceral battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader are in for a treat thanks to a new fan video. The Obi-Wan versus Vader fight in A New Hope is one of the most powerful and heartbreaking moments of the 1977 science fiction classic, as the elder Jedi Master comes up against former pupil and Sith Lord Darth Vader aboard the Death Star.

The fight itself packs a thematic punch. It helped form Darth Vader’s place as one of the greatest screen villains of all time, as well as giving Skywalker himself the groundwork and drive to become what some have described as the most powerful Jedi ever. However, the fight has its detractors, particularly when it comes to the excitement of the fight itself.

Thankfully, those who aren’t fond of Obi-Wan’s somewhat lackadaisical approach to the lightsaber fight with Vader have an alternative to turn to. YouTube creator FXitinPost has created a fantastic fan film teaser which delivers a little more by way of action in comparison to the original cut of the film. The fan film can be seen at the top of this post.

In a way, the fight comes closer in feel to those seen in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, with punchy and violent strikes from Vader and desperate defending from Obi-Wan. It’s a far cry from the acrobatics of the prequel films, and the scene’s context in A New Hope as a whole hopefully means that the emotional impact won’t be taken away when the full release of the scene comes in 2018.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has yet to make a full appearance in the new Star Wars trilogy, outside of Rey’s vision in The Force Awakens, but there’s going to be some more Obi-Wan action on the way soon. According to reports, the Obi-Wan solo movie is due to start production in early 2019, with the film set to be the first standalone Star Wars film to arrive after Star Wars: Episode IX.

Between now and then, however, there is bound to be lots of speculation regarding the film, particularly over what role (if any) Ewan McGregor would have in the production. At the very least, fans can see what a potential McGregor-led Obi-Wan movie would look like thanks to a fan-made Obi Wan trailer with the actor. Whatever the outcome of the final film, its great to see these fan-created projects in action.
