New Ready Player One Trailer This Weekend | More Images Arrive

New images from Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One divides the virtual and real world, ahead of the next trailer. For many film fans, Spielberg is responsible for many of their all-time classics. That includes some of the most noteworthy pop culture events in the 1980s, making him a perfect fit for Ready Player One. Set in the year 2045, the movie sees people living in a virtual world to escape the actual problems facing humanity. Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts is the focal point of the story, as he attempts to solve the clues to win. His prize? The keys to the OASIS kingdom.

The first trailer for Ready Player One teased viewers with the endless possibilities that OASIS holds. Connections to classic works of pop culture like Akira, Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, DC Comics, and more are expected to feature in the film. There hasn’t been any additional footage released from the movie since San Diego Comic-Con this past summer. However, that’s about to change.

EW released new photos from Ready Player One today, highlighting Wade’s adventure in the virtual world, as well as the real world danger that he puts himself in. The images are just the beginning however, as a new trailer is set to arrive on Sunday. Ernest Cline – the author of the 2011 novel by the same name and the cowriter of the film adaptation – has confirmed that the new Ready Player One trailer will premiere on Sunday. The new images continue to show the balance between the real and virtual world at play in the movie. Spielberg told EW that the movie acts as a comparative study to see where people would rather spend their lives. The appeal of the OASIS is clearly there. But as Wade will discover, your actions in there can lead to repercussions in the real world. The image of the Stacks – Wade and many others’ homes – being blown up is just one of the outcomes. The images also show Olivia Cooke’s Samantha as the only person not plugged in at the moment, but she’ll be very much involved in the film’s virtual world.

With a new trailer on the horizon, it will hopefully shed more light on how Wade and Samantha’s story connect. Their avatars seen standing next to each other in one of the images, and both appear to be big deals. Wade and Samantha’s avatars are described as a celebrity and a warrior-goddess respectively. Parzival and Art3mis – their avatar names – will be equally as important to the story, and serve to showcase the movie’s out-of-this-world visuals. The first trailer did that in grand fashion, so hopefully the new one will do the same.

The first trailer didn’t fully introduce the story or characters though, so the new trailer could stand to focus on that more. Ready Player One includes cast members like Ben Mendelsohn and Mark Rylance, alongside Sheridan and Cooke. Both characters play important roles in the story, but now is as good a time as ever to introduce them.
