Suicide Squad Director Reveals Why One Harley Quinn Scene Was Cut
For DC and film fans, Margot Robbie’s inspiringly psychotic performance was a huge hit and die-hard Suicide Squad fans are eagerly looking forward to her future appearances. While waiting for Suicide Squad 2 however, there are always plenty of bonus materials for fans to examine to pass the time. From different concept art to behind the scenes photos, there’s been a healthy dialogue between fans and creators about the squad and their compatriots.
A careful examination of several behind the scenes photos revealed a costume for Harley that didn’t make it into the final film. Fans got curious and took to Twitter to discuss the scene with Ayer. In discussing the film with fans, the Bright director revealed that he needed more visuals to introduce Harley, presumably during Amanda Waller’s monologue about her character.
The opening introduction to Harley was a barrage of visuals, similar to how fans were introduced to each one of the squad as well as the Joker. It would make sense that some of the scenes and some of the costumes wouldn’t make it into the final cut of the film. Harley and the Joker’s psychotic aesthetic was a highlight of the film’s Gotham scenes adding a much-needed splash of color to a city that’s been traditionally dark and dreary. Ayer went on to put several rumors to rest including Jared Leto wearing the bat-suit, making this the final nail in the coffin for anyone hoping to see any unseen Joker footage.
Still, fans have every right to feel disappointed. Even if costumes and scenes were created for visual effect, the promotional material for Suicide Squad sold fans on much larger parts for Harley and the Joker and ultimately didn’t deliver. It’s only natural that some fans of the character might be looking for more information. While the film could be argued to be one of the brighter spots of the DC franchise, many Squad fans are clearly ready to see more of Harley and her clown prince of crime. For all the build-up, Suicide Squad didn’t offer nearly enough of two of it’s most iconic characters.
Thankfully, there are a number of opportunities for people with an urge to see the Joker and Harley return to the screen, both together and separately. From Suicide Squad 2 to the potential Gotham City Sirens and the Joker and Harley film, fans of Batman’s rogues’ gallery will have plenty to discuss and appreciate, even if previous films haven’t offered enough of their favorite villains for their liking.
