Rob Liefeld Also Wants a Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League
Unfortunately, despite making some improvements over the critically panned Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the chaotic production of Justice League resulted in a predictably disjointed film that received a lukewarm reaction from critics and a mixed response from fans. Many of those theatergoers have spoken in the form of the movie’s disappointing box office run, but others have created a groundswell of support for the release of Snyder’s original cut. You can add Liefeld to the latter list.
Liefeld posted on his Twitter account on Saturday that he “definitely” wants to see Snyder’s original version of Justice League, which reportedly ran about three hours. Warner Bros. apparently requested to reduce the run time to under two hours, which led to drastic cuts and changes made during reshoots with Whedon at the helm. The film suffered a similar fate to BvS, which was eventually released as a three-hour “Ultimate Edition” that Snyder trumpeted as his true vision – and that others argued was an improvement upon the theatrical release.
Liefeld is only the latest in a string of people who have supported the call for Snyder’s original Justice League to be released, which has led to a fan petition with over 130,000 signatures. Snyder’s son Jett blamed studio meddling for the film’s polarizing final cut, while Snyder himself has stayed out of the drama, but he still liked a social media post that linked to the petition. Cinematographer Fabian Wagner also publicly supported the idea of Snyder’s original cut.
Unfortunately for those who wish to see Snyder’s original vision get a proper release, it’s very unlikely to happen at this point for a complicated range of reasons. There could, however, be an extended edition with some deleted scenes added to the final theatrical cut. The fact that the petition went so viral – and that people within the industry are speaking out in favor of Snyder’s cut – proves that there is at least some legitimate support behind his work on Justice League. Those who signed the petition are convinced that the director’s original vision would represent an improvement over the issues that plagued the final edition.
