Leaked Avengers: Infinity War Footage Previews Marvel’s Team-Up
Leaked Avengers: Infinity War footage further hypes the upcoming massive Marvel Cinematic Universe team-up. Ever since Marvel Studios’ launched their superhero franchise with Iron Man, the House of Ideas’ film division has been building toward the the Avengers’ battle with the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin). While the MCU has had success recently with the premiere of Thor: Ragnarok in theaters, and are currently promoting their next feature, Black Panther, fans are perhaps most anticipating the debut of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer.
This summer, Marvel Studios unveiled an early Avengers: Infinity War trailer/sizzle reel at both D23 and Comic-Con International in San Diego for those lucky enough to be in attendance, but the studio has yet to officially premiere any footage to the public. There has been plenty of speculation in recent months about when the Avengers: Infinity War trailer will premiere, as well as why it’s been held back, with the latest reports claiming the Avengers 3 trailer will drop in early December. However, before Marvel had the chance to officially unveil footage from the film, some scenes have leaked online.
A Vimeo user has uploaded six clips from Avengers: Infinity War that may or may not be taken from the movie’s official trailer – most of which have no sound. The first clip features Falcon (Anthony Mackie) fighting what appears to be a member of Thanos’ Black Order, then cuts to a shot of Falcon, Black Widow with white hair, and Nomad Captain America (Chris Evans). Clip #2 depicts a mid-range shot on Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in front of a burning truck, before switching to a wide shot in which she uses her power to blast the still-burning truck. The third clip shows what appears to be a room belonging to The Collector on fire, with Gamora (Zoe Saldana) looking around – and Drax (Dave Bautista) in the background.
The fourth clip features what appears to be a member of Thanos’ Black Order – possibly a different member than the one fighting Falcon in an earlier clip – throwing a glowing spear at a man in silhouette. It’s unclear who this man is, but it could be Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) or Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) – or someone else entirely. The fifth clip shows Scarlet Witch with a conflicted look on her face holding her hand out like she’s about to use her powers, but she’s staring emotionally back at Vision (Paul Bettany).
The final video is a full scene with soundtrack and dialogue, though all shots with Thanos are blacked out. It depicts the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Mantis (Pom Klementieff) sneaking into The Collector’s lair where he seems to be being interrogated by Thanos about the location of the Reality Stone. The Guardians watch this interrogation, with Gamora having an emotional reaction and Drax vowing to make Thanos pay for the deaths of his wife and daughter. This scene in particular doesn’t seem to be from the trailer, but is actually a full clip from the film. In fact, the scene seems to depict the Guardians’ first meeting of Thanos, and confirms the Mad Titan is searching for the Infinity Stones on his own, with his mission taking him to The Collector.
Aside from the final bit of footage, these clips don’t reveal too much about Avengers: Infinity War. Certainly, we have a better idea of how the Guardians stumble across Thanos, and what important information they’ll have to tell the Earth-bound Avengers once everyone comes together. However, we don’t have much context for how each of these scenes fit into the overall film – except for the clip of The Collector’s lair burning, which indicates his meeting with Thanos doesn’t end well. Still, with fans eagerly anticipating any news regarding Avengers: Infinity War, hopefully this leaked footage indicates Marvel Studios is close to unveiling the first trailer for what is sure to be the biggest installment yet in the MCU.
